Daiki Kameda, of Tokyo, has been “tentatively” sanctioned to face Rodrigo Guerrero, of Mexico City, for the IBF’s vacant junior bantamweight belt on Sept. 3 in Takamatsu, Japan, according to a letter obtained by RingTV.com.

“It’s an honor to be in the first fight back in a historically great place for boxing like Japan,” said matchmaker Sean Gibbons of Zanfer Promotions, which handles Guerrero.

“There is such tradition there. For the IBF to be back in that market, it’s a great place to fight. There is so much respect for boxing over there. So the IBF ordered the fight, and we’ve made a deal to fight in Japan.”

A 25-year-old former titleholder from Mexico City, Guerrero is 19-4-1 with 12 knockouts. Meanwhile, Kameda, who is 24, is 28-3 with 18 knockouts, and currently on a six-fight winning streak.

Kameda is the middle of three brothers who enjoy celebrity status in Japan. His older brother, Koki, is currently rated No. 3 in the bantamweight division by THE RING, while the youngest sibling, Tomoki, is scheduled to face Paulus Ambunda for the WBO bantamweight title on Aug. 1.

“The bout is scheduled for September 3, 2013 in Japan. Formal sanction will be granted once we received the site information and the signed contracts. Contracts are due by July 23, 2013,” read a letter from IBF Championships Chairman Lindsay Tucker to Richard Rizzo, of Kameda Promotions, which handles Kameda.
