Can Macklin stop Golovkin? The experts weigh in
Gennady Golovkin TKO 10 Matthew Macklin: Though I think very highly of Gennady Golovkin, I’m not yet 100 percent sold on the emerging star. Saturday’s fight with middleweight Matthew Macklin should help us figure out where he really stands.
Golovkin has an impressive run of stoppage wins, but all but one of them have come against career 154-pounders. Macklin is a true middleweight, having been at the weight until 2007, following a defeat against fellow Brit Jamie Moore.
I expect Golovkin to have a tad bit of trouble with Macklin early on, but eventually stop him in the later rounds. Macklin took quite a beating at the hands of Sergio Martinez last March and has fought one round in the fifteen months since.
Still, he serves as Golovkin’s first true test at the 160 pound limit and will be a good litmus test to compare to middleweight king Martinez. Golovkin via TKO 10.

Gennady Golovkin KO Matthew Macklin: I may be one of the last people to get on the Gennady Golovkin bandwagon. To me, he seems like a very beatable power puncher.
But is Matthew Macklin the guy to do it? I doubt it. I expect a very similar fight to Macklin versus Sergio Martinez with Macklin again the loser via late stoppage.

Gennady Golovkin TKO 9 Matthew Macklin: Just can’t pick against Gennady Golovkin in this one. Matthew Macklin is very solid but his lack of movement will likely spell trouble against Golovkin, who is an accurate, deadly puncher.

Gennady Golovkin KO 7 Matthew Macklin: Matthew Macklin is a solid, tough boxer who would give anyone at least some trouble. This will probably look something like his fight against Sergio Martinez, though.
Gennady Golovkin, the much better all-around fighter, will break him down and knock him out. This time it will come sooner: Golovkin by seventh-round knockout.

Gennady Golovkin KO 7 Matthew Macklin: Gennady Golovkin seems like a wrecking machine, while Matthew Macklin has turned into nothing more than a punching bag in two of his last three fights.
Can’t see this going beyond five rounds. Gennady Golovkin simply has too much fire power for Macklin to withstand. Macklin will fight back, which will be make it interesting. But don’t blink. One resounding Golovkin connect and it’s all over.

Gennady Golovkin KO Matthew Macklin: I am going with Gennady Golovkin by a later round stoppage in a good, competitive match with Mathew Macklin. GGG’s power and accuracy will be too much by the end.

Gennady Golovkin TKO 10 Matthew Macklin: I think that Gennady Golovkin has sort of proven that he’s got very heavy hands. Matthew Macklin is a very durable guy who stands up to a lot of punishment.
But I just don’t think that Macklin’s going to be able to stand up to Golovkin’s punches through the course of the full fight. I’m thinking that it’s going to be something like a late stoppage, maybe a ninth- or 10th-round TKO.

Gennady Golovkin TKO 10 Matthew Macklin: This is a very interesting and high-level fight in the middleweight division. Although he is considered the clear favorite, Gennady Golovkin has the toughest fight of his career ahead of him this weekend. Matthew Macklin is coming to win, and he has a decent shot to do so.
Golovkin has that rare combination of high skill and extreme power, and is one of the best boxer-punches in the sport. Macklin won’t provide him with anything he hasn’t seen. But the challenger is fairly skilled himself, and can crack a little bit.
I look for the fight to get to the last four rounds, with Golovkin clearly out-boxing Macklin. But the WBA champ is dangerous throughout, and I think he wears Macklin down and stops him in the last third of the fight. Golovkin TKO 10 Macklin.

Gennady Golovkin KO 7 Matthew Macklin: I have to go with Gennady Golovkin. He’s a big puncher, and, obviously, he’s got some of the heavier hands in the sport. He’s a very patient fighter, and he doesn’t get reckless, ever. He just takes a guy apart.
Matthew Macklin’s a tough guy, and he’s got a great chin. He did well against Sergio Martinez, but I don’t see him doing that with Golovkin. I’ll say Golovkin with a seventh-round KO.

Gennady Golovkin KO 9 Matthew Macklin: This is the biggest test to date for Gennady Golovkin, in Matthew Macklin he’s in with a skilled, hard nosed guy who has solid Middleweight power.
However, if he is what we believe he is, he’ll have too much for Macklin, it promises to be an all action fight that after a few rounds will likely really heat up.
Both guys like to go forward and by the mid rounds Golovkin’s power will be taking it’s toll on Macklin face and I suspect GGG will get the stoppage in around 9 rounds.
Both guys will come out of it with credit, Macklin for his bravery and Golovkin for further proving his ability with the march to Middleweight supremacy a step further along.

By the landslide margin of 19-0, with only one voter believing the fight will last the distance, the insiders see Gennady Golovkin perhaps scoring his 14th straight stoppage victory against Matthew Macklin in defense of his WBA middleweight belt.
