Derrick Wilson returned to his spoiler ways with a 10-round unanimous decision over previously unbeaten featherweight prospect Braulio Santos in the main event of a Golden Boy Live! card in Sunrise, Fla., on Saturday.

Wilson (10-4-2, 3 knockouts), of Ft. Myers, Fla., scored a ninth-round knockdown en route to official tallies of 96-93 (twice) and 95-94 in what was a hotly contested, foul-filled fight.

Wilson, an athletic 24-year-old boxer, had the faster hands, quicker reflexes and better ring generalship. However, Santos (10-1, 9 KOs), of Carolina, Puerto Rico, had better offensive technique and power, and was also the more consistent fighter in terms of punch output.

The fight featured constant exchanges and more than a few low blows and roughhouse tactics (mostly from Santos). Santos, a 23-year-old boxer-puncher who is promoted by Miguel Cotto, did his best work when he was able to pin Wilson to the ropes but the 24-year-old spoiler was able to buzz the prospect with punches on the fly.

Wilson had lost three of his last four bouts, but now reunited with his amateur coach, he seems to have recaptured the confidence and form he had when he upset then-undefeated Ricky Lopez (MD 6 in 2010) and Charles Huerta (via first-round KO in 2009).

In the co-featured bout of the Fox Sports broadcast, welterweight prospect Daquan Arnett improved to 11-0, with 7 KOs, by stopping once-beaten Miguel Zuniga in the fifth round of a scheduled eight-round junior middleweight bout.

Zuniga (13-2, 8 KOs), of San Diego, was the aggressor throughout the bout, and the 25-year-old pressure fighter had some success when he pinned Arnett to the ropes, but he couldn’t deal with the Orlando, Fla. native’s hand speed and technique, which abruptly turned his lights out midway into the fifth round.

Zuniga thought he was getting the better of Arnett during an exchange — despite catching three left hooks — and made the mistake of pausing to motion to the 20-year-old prospect to “bring it on.” Arnett brought it — in the form of a flush left hook, which floored Zuniga hard enough for referee Frank Santore Jr. to wave the fight off at 1:37 of the round.

Also in action was junior middleweight prospect Jermall Charlo, who made quick work of 39-year-old veteran Luis Hernandez, dropping the rugged Equador native twice en route to a second-round stoppage. 

Charlo (14-0, 10 KOs), of Houston, scored a technical knockdown — which dumped Hernandez (21-6, 14 KOs) into the ropes — early in the second before landing a clean right that dropped the older fighter hard in the final minute of the round. Referee Sam Burgos opted to call the fight off at 2:26 even though Hernandez wanted to continue.
