Lucas Matthysse stopped Lamont Peterson at 2:14 of Round 3 of a junior welterweight fight Saturday in Atlantic City, N.J.

Matthysse put Peterson down once in the second round and twice more in the third with left hooks, hurting him each time. Referee Steve Smoger stopped the fight immediately after Peterson went down the last time.

Matthysse (34-2, 32 knockouts) has stopped six consecutive opponents since losing a split decision to Devon Alexander in 2011.

Peterson (31-2-1, 16 KOs) was coming off an impressive eighth-round knockout of Kendall Holt.

The fight was contested at a catchweight of 141 pounds, with no world titles on the line. A full report will follow shortly.
