We didn’t see much movement in the ratings this past week.

At heavyweight, Odlanier Solis outpointed Leif Larson in a pedestrian bout. No ranking for either fighter. Former beltholder Ruslan Chagaev stopped Mike Sheppard in the first round. RING-rated Robert Helenius won a decision over British journeyman Michael Sprott.

Helenius looked very average for the third consecutive fight, so members of the Ratings Panel suggested that Chageav flop spots with Helenius. The Editorial Board agreed, with Chageav moving to No. 6 and Helenius dropping to No. 7 in the rankings.

At cruiserweight, No. 10-rated Dmytro Kucher pitched a shutout on all three score cards in outpointing Julio Cesar Dos Santos. With good talent in the 200-pound division, Kucher’s win was not good enough for him to move ahead of No. 9-rated Firat Arslan in the rankings. Impressive by today’s standards, we’re looking to see if the undefeated Ukrainian fights a decent opponent again before Arslan and we may consider a move up for Kucher, who fought seven fights in 2012.

At light heavyweight, Eleider Alvarez impressively stopped Nicholson Poulard in the third round. It’s still a little early for a ranking for Alvarez but he is closing in on the top 10. Super middleweight contender Adonis Stevenson avenged his previous loss to Darnell Boone with a TKO in the sixth round of a catchweight bout above 168 pounds. Stevenson is scheduled to face Chad Dawson in June so we’ll wait until then to consider ranking him in the light heavyweight division.

At super middleweight, Robert Stieglitz scored his career best win stopping Arthur Abraham in four due to Abraham’s swollen eye being closed limiting his vision to one eye. This win moves Stieglitz up in the 168-pound division to No. 4 ahead of Oosthuizen and Abraham. George Groves, Sakio Bika, Stevenson and Edwin Rodriguez remain in their current spots.

At middleweight, Marco Antonio Rubio stopped Marcus Upshaw in six rounds. Rubio is just outside the top 10 rankings. Solid win for Billy Joe Saunders over Matthew Hall. Saunders is still learning his craft at age 23 so he has time to develop further. No change in the rankings.

At junior middleweight, Lukas Konecny won a technical decision over Karim Achour after Konecny suffered two cuts over his eyes due to accidental head butts. The fight was stopped in the 12th and went to the score cards with Konecny winning on all three cards. No change in the rankings.

At junior welterweight, undefeated Ukrainian Viktor Postol outpointed Henry Lundy, looking good in a strong division. Postol is just outside the top ten. No change in the rankings

At junior lightweight, Devis Boschiero retained his European title with a tenth round KO over Samir Kasmi. No ranking for Boschiero but he’s active and if someone drops out he’s a possibility to enter the top ten rankings. His only loss was by split decision against Takiahiro Ao in a world title fight in Japan. No change in the rankings.

At junior featherweight, Jeffrey Mathebula had a decision win over fellow former beltholder Takalani Ndlouv. Mathebula will remain ranked No. 3.

At bantamweight, Joseph Agbeko returned out pointing hard punching Luis Melendez in Ghana. Agbeko deserves a ranking but not too high yet. The former two-time titleholder will enter the rankings at No. 10 replacing Jamie McDonnell. We’ll take a close look at Agbeko’s next fight to review the rankings. 

At flyweight, Jonathon Gonzalez stopped Joseph Rios in the third round in Puerto Rico. Gonzalez is still a few wins from cracking the top ten rankings. No change in the rankings.
