Former world title challenger Rey “Boom Boom” Bautista will face Jose Ramirez in a 12-round featherweight bout at University of Southeastern Philippines Gymnasium in Davao City, Philippines on April 20.

The bout will headline ALA Promotions’ “Pinoy Pride XIX” card, which will be televised in the Philippines by ABS-CBN on a delayed basis.

Bautista (34-2, 25 knockouts), of Candijay, Bohol, Philippines, has won eight straight since his last defeat to Heriberto Ruiz in 2008, which he later avenged. In Bautista’s lone title challenge, he was knocked out in one round by current WBC featherweight titleholder Daniel Ponce De Leon in 2007. Despite his professional inconsistencies, the 26-year-old Bautista remains a crowd-favorite in his home nation, as evidenced by the estimated 40,000 fans on hand to witness his homecoming bout in Bohol against Genaro Garcia last March.

His opponent Ramirez of Mexicali, Mexico, despite having an impressive looking record of 24-3 (15 KOs), hasn’t faced the caliber of opposition Bautista has. Ramirez’s three losses have all come by decision, with the most recent being three fights ago, when he lost an eight-round unanimous decision to Abdiel Ramirez in 2011.

In the co-featured slot, THE RING’s No. 8-rated flyweight Rocky Fuentes (34-6-2, 20 KOs), of Cebu City, Philippines, will face Juan Kantun (20-3-3, 15 KOs), of Merida, Mexico, in a ten-round bout.

Also on the card, Arthur Villanueva (20-0, 11 KOs) of Bacolod City, Philippines and Marco Demecillo (18-0-1, 14 KOs) of Iligan City, Philippines will meet in a 12-round bout between two of the countries highest regarded super flyweight prospects.
