Mijares-Terrazas set for April 20, Mexico City

When Mexican junior featherweight Victor Terrazas steps into the ring opposite countryman Cristian Mijares in a clash for the WBC’s vacant 122-pound title in Mexico City’s Arena Ciudad de Mexico on April 20, it will have been nearly three years to the day since he was knocked out in tthe ninth round by Rendall Munroe.

Since then, however, Terrazas (36-2-1, 21 knockouts) has gone 10-0 with seven stoppage victories.

Mijares (47-6-2, 22 KOs) has won 11 consecutive fights — seven by stoppage — since falling to Nehomar Cermeno by unanimous decision in September of 2009.

Mijares is a 31-year-old a former two-time 115-pound titleholder. The southpaw’s first title reign ended following a ninth-round knockout los to Vic Darchinyan in November of 2008 after eight defenses.



Mijares is coming December’s ninth-round knockout of former two-division beltholder Rafael Marquez.

On the undercard of the Mijares-Terrazas fight, according to Zanfer Promotions’ matchmaker, Sean Gibbons, will be an appearance by hard-hitting southpaw middleweight Gilberto Ramirez Sanchez (24-0, 19 KOs), who is co-promoted by Top Rank.

Top Rank President Todd duBoef said Mijares-Terrazas will be televised on UniMas, part of “Solo Boxeo Tecate.”
