Alejandro Perez scored a hard-fought 10-round unanimous decision over Art Hovhannisyan in an entertaining ShoBox: The New Generation main event on Friday in Cabazon, Calif.

Perez (16-3-1, 11 knockouts), who outworked his naturally bigger and more polished opponent, won by scores of 95-94, 96-94 and 96-93. The 26-year-old Salinas, Calif. native marched forward for most of the fight, attacking the body of his friend and frequent sparring partner.

Perez did not let up, even when referee Ray Corona penalized him a point for low blows in the fifth round.

Hovhannisyan (15-1-2, 8 KOs), a 31-year-old Armenian living in Glendale, Calif., used a lot of lateral movement as he landed accurate counter hooks and lead rights.

Both men scored consistently with their different styles, making for a brisk contest, especially during the second half of the bout.

In the co-featured bout of the Showtime broadcast, middleweight prospect Tureano Johnson improved to 14-0 (10 KOs) with a one-sided eight-round decision over previously unbeaten late-comer Willie Fortune.

Johnson, a 29-year-old Bahamian amateur standout, worked over the tough-but-limited 31-year-old Detroit native en route to unanimous shutout scores of 80-72.
