Nov. 17 Broner-DeMarco card still a go in storm-damaged Atlantic City
Golden Boy will proceed with its plans for an HBO-televised doubleheader that is scheduled for Nov. 17 at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City despite damage to parts of the boardwalk in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.
The event is comprised of Seth “Mayhem” Mitchell facing fellow heavyweight prospect Johnathon Banks and undefeated former WBO junior lightweight beltholder Adrien Broner challenging WBC lightweight titleholder Antonio DeMarco.
According to reports, the gambling city’s 12 waterfront casinos came through the storm largely unscathed, although New Jersey casino regulators will be surveying the venues starting on Wednesday on a case-by-case basis.
Golden Boy COO David Itskowitch said that he was re-assured that “we are rolling ahead” with the show after speaking with Ken Condon of Caesars Entertainment, which includes Bally’s Atlantic City and Caesars Atlantic City, among other hotels and casinos. Condon books fights as a consultant for Caesars Entertainment.
“We’re going ahead as if the show is taking place,” said Itskowitch, referring to his conversation with Condon. “From what I have been told, Boardwalk Hall is fine, and the boardwalk in front of Boardwalk Hall is fine. Ken Condon told me that they were getting ready to re-open the casinos today.”
