Both Lucas Matthysse and Olusegun Ajose looked fit and ready weighiing in at 139 pounds for their Showtime-televised junior welterweight showdown – with the WBC “interim” 140-pound belt on the line – from the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas on Saturday.

Ajose (30-0, 14 knockouts), of Nigeria, is the WBC’s No. 1-rated 140-pound contender. He says Matthysse, rated No. 2 by the WBC, is the only top contender who was willing to face him.

“I’ve been avoided for a long time but now I’ve got an opportunity to show everybody what I got, so I got to take it,” he said. “It’s going to be a good fight. He’s going to come out firing from all angles. That’s what I’m going to do, fire punches from all angles, but at the end of the night I’m going to win.”

Matthysse (31-2, 29 KOs), of Argentina, says his hand will be raised at the end of the night and he’s not relying on the judges.

“I’m going to come out and look for the knockout and take the title back to Argentina,” said Matthysse. “I don’t know much about him but he’s No. 1 in the world, he’s the best and I only want to fight the best.”
