Featherweight prospect Ronny Rios extended his unbeaten record with a hard fought but ultimately one-sided eight-round unanimous decision over Guillermo Sanchez in the Telefutura-televised main event of a Solo Boxeo Tecate show in Anaheim, Calif., on Saturday.

Rios (18-0, 8 knockouts), who won by scores of 80-72, 80-72 and 79-73, was the aggressor throughout the bout and often pinned the tall southpaw to the ropes with a two-fisted body attack.

The 22-year-old Santa Ana, Calif., native was in control throughout the fight but Sanchez (13-6-1, 5 KOs), a 23-year-old boxer from Puerto Rico, scored in spots during the middle rounds. However, Rios, who received a stern warning from referee Lou Moret for holding and hitting after the fourth round, was able to duck under most of Sanchez’s punches as he pressed the rangy southpaw to the ropes where he landed right crosses, hooks and uppercuts.

By the seventh round, Sanchez did more holding than punching.

In the co-featured bout of the Golden Boy Promotions show, welterweight prospect Hugo Centeno remained remained undefeated with a fourth-round TKO of Gerrardo Prieto.

Centeno (13-0, 7 KOs), a tall switch-hitter from Oxnard, Calif., was in command from the start whether he was working his jab or stalking the chubby opponent from Provo, Utah. Centeno rocked Prieto midway through the fourth after the journeyman visibly hurt his hand during an exchange and then swarmed him until Moret halted the bout at 1:54 of the round.
