English heavyweight Dereck Chisora has had his license withdrawn by the British Boxing Board of Control following his unruly behavior before and after his loss to Vitali Klitschko last month in Germany.

Chisora, who lives in London, caused mayhem throughout his stay in Munich. The Zimbabwe-born 28-year-old slapped WBC holder Klitschko at the weig- in, spat water in the face of his younger brother Wladimir just before the first bell and then was involved in an ugly brawl with David Haye at the post-fight news conference, even threatening to “shoot” Haye’s countryman.

Now, after a hearing Wednesday in Cardiff, Wales, which lasted more than three hours, the BBBC has found Chisora guilty of bringing the sport into disrepute and suspended him indefinitely from fighting on British soil.

“Dereck Chisora is not a fit and proper person to hold a license. It has been withdrawn immediately,” said BBBC secretary Robert Smith. “There is no set period for when he can reapply for his license. Any person is allowed to reapply at some point and the Board will consider any application. But for today, Mr Chisora does not hold a Board license. What happens in the future, I do not know.”

Chisora’s reaction to the punishment was somewhat dismissive. After confirming he was unhappy with the ruling, he said: “Three letters ÔǪ MGM, here I come,” presumably a reference to the fact he is free to fight abroad. He then sped off in a waiting car.

His promoter Frank Warren was not exactly overjoyed, either, and revealed they may well appeal. They have 14 days in which to do so.

“I was happy with some aspects of the hearing and unhappy with other aspects,” said Warren. “We will now go away and decide over the next few days — well, Dereck will decide — if he wants to appeal.”
