WBO featherweight titlist Orlando Salido dropped Kenichi Yamaguchi of Japan twice and stopped him the 11th round on Saturday in Ciudad Obregon, Mexico, Salido’s hometown.

It was Salido’s first defense of the title he took from Juan Manuel Lopez in Apri. The victory likely sets up a rematch with Lopez.

Salido (36-11-2, 24 knockouts) put Yamaguchi (17-2-2, 4 KOs) down in the third and ninth rounds. The Mexican was battering his foe in the 11th round when referee Roberto Ramirez stopped it at 2:50.

Yamaguchi had been 13-0-1 in his previous 14 fights.

The Salido-Lopez rematch could take place in late October or early November, matchmaker Sean Gibbons of Zanfer Promotions told RingTV.com. Salido knocked out Lopez in Lopez's hometown of Bayamon, Puerto Rico.
