Joel Julio’s move back down to 147 pounds was successful on Friday night in Newark, N.J.

Julio, a junior middleweight contender for more than four years, defeated capable Anges Adjaho by a near-shutout decision in his first welterweight bout since 2006.

Julio (37-4, 31 knockouts) outworked Adjaho (25-6, 14 KOs) from the outside and was never seriously challenged.

The Colombian lost three of four fights (to Sergei Dzinziruk, James Kirkland and Alfredo Angulo) at 154 pounds between 2008 and last year. That prompted his move back to down to 147, at which he was once a contender.

Adjaho, from Benin in Africa, was once a contender but has lost his last fights.
