Miguel Cotto will defend his junior middleweight title against Ricardo Mayorga on March 12 in Las Vegas on pay-per-view TV, it has been formally announced.

Yuri Foreman also will make his return to boxing after knee surgery, facing Pawel Wolak in a 154-pound matchup. And Chrsty Martin, who has recovered from gunshot and stab would allegedly inflicted by her husband and former trainer in November, will fight for the first time in 18 months.

Cotto, a former welterweight and junior welterweight titleholder, won the WBA version of the junior middleweight belt when he stopped Foreman in nine rounds last June in New York. That was the Puerto Rican’s most-recent fight.

Mayorga, also a former welterweight titleholder, returned to boxing after a two-year layoff by stopping journeyman Michael Walker in nine rounds in December. The Nicaraguan, 37, is 4-4 in his last eight fights. He outpointed Fernando Vargas but lost to Shane Mosley, Oscar De La Hoya, Felix Trinidad and Corey Spinks during that stretch.

Foreman, a good boxer with little power, never had a chance against Cotto because his knee gave out during the fight, after which he had surgery to repair damage. This will be his first fight since the operation.

Wolak, a once-beaten Pole, is coming off a seventh-round knockout of Jose Pinzon in December.

Martin, 42, hasn’t fought since September 2009, when she narrowly outpointed Dakota Stone. She faces Stone in a rematch on March 12.

Also on the card, Miguel Vazquez will defend his IBF lightweight title against unbeaten Leonard Zappavigna (AKA Lenny Zappa).
