Klitschko-Adamek on for September?

Tomasz Adamek will challenge heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko in his native Poland in late September, sources close to the former cruiserweight champ told RingTV.com late Thursday.

Klitschko, who was unable to come to terms with titleholder David Haye for a much-ballyhooed showdown in July, must first defend his RING title against Dereck Chisora on April 30 in Mannheim, Germany.

If Klitschko is successful, as he is expected to be (the unaccomplished British challenger only has 14 pro bouts), the dominant 34-year-old champ will defend his titles against Adamek (41-1, 27 knockouts), the magazine's No. 4-rated heayvweight, in a 52,000-seat soccer stadium in Wroclaw, Poland.

Television rights have yet to be negotiated, but all other terms of the bout have been agreed upon by both sides, according to the source within Adamek's camp. Klitschko's representatives began negotiating with Adamek as soon as talks with Haye broke down and it obviously did not take long for the sides to come to terms.

America's premium cable networks (HBO and Showtime) did not televise Klitschko's title bouts in 2009 and 2010 (during which time he defeated Ruslan Chagaev, Eddie Chambers and Samuel Peter), however a defense against Adamek — which is viewed as the highest-profile fight for the champ outside of a showdown with Haye — might draw their interest.
