LAS VEGAS – Amir Khan weighed in at the junior welterweight limit of 140 pounds for his title defense against Marcos Maidana on Saturday at Mandalay Bay. Maidana weighed 139.

This is the most Khan has weighed in his four junior welterweight fights. He weighed 139¾ for the Andreas Kotelnik fight in July of last year. He weighed 139¾ against both Paulie Malignaggi and Dmitry Salita.

Maidana has fought at junior welterweight since he turned pro in 2004.

“We were light a pound because we didn’t have access to the scale until the last minute,” said Miguel Diaz, Maidana’s trainer, referring to his fighter’s inability to check his weight before the official weigh-in.

Diaz said he expects Maidana to weigh between 148 and 150 pounds on fight night.

Victor Ortiz and Lamont Peterson also made weight for their junior welterweight fight on the undercard. Ortiz weighed 141, the contracted weight. Peterson weighed 140.

Joan Guzman, known for failing to make weight in the past, weighed 144 1/2 for his 140-pound fight against Jason Davis. Davis also was overweight, coming in at 143. They agreed to fight over the limit.
