Brooklyn's featherweight beltholder Elio Rojas (22-1, 13 KOs) scored a lopsided unanimous decision over former titleholder Guty Espadas Jr. (45-8, 28 KOs) on Saturday night in the challenger's hometown of Merida, Mexico.
Rojas, a 27-year-old native of the Dominican Republic now living in New York, won by scores of 120-110 and 119-109 (twice). Rojas made the first defense of the 126-pound belt he won from Takahiro Aoh in Japan last July. Rojas is THE RING's No. 8-rated featherweight.
Espadas, the 35-year-old son of the former flyweight champ, was on a seven-bout win streak coming into the Rojas fight although against modest opposition.
