Jones loss is Garcia’s gain

Roy Jones' stunning first-round knockout to Danny Green dashes plans Golden Boy Promotions had of matching the former four-division titleholder with Bernard Hopkins in March, but his quick loss may be a boon to two of the company's prospects who are on the undercard of tonight's Hopkins-Enrique Ornelas bout.

Hopkins' fight with Ornelas was a tune-up for the proposed Jones showdown, which is why the Jones-Green fight is part of tonight's Versus broadcast (8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT). Now that fans know that Jones lasted only 122 seconds with Green, they can expect to see junior welterweight prospect Danny Garcia in a tough 10 rounder and maybe junior featherweight flash Derrick Wilson in six-round action.

Had Jones-Green gone a full 12 rounds, Garcia's bout against veteran Enrique Colin, may not have made the broadcast. Now Garcia (14-0, 9 knockouts), a native of Philadelphia where tonight's fight takes place, can expect his entire fight to be on national television.

Wilson (5-0-1, 2 KOs), who faces tough journeyman Guadalupe DeLeon, can also expect to get some face time on Versus, a network he's been on twice before — scoring impressive first-round KOs in both appearances.
