Kermit Cintron quieted the doubters and gave his career a huge boost with a unanimous decision over Alfredo Angulo in a 12-round 154-pound fight on the Andre Berto-Juan Urango undercard Saturday in Hollywood, Fla.
Cintron, a former titleholder who was given a gift draw against Sergio Martinez in his last fight, outboxed and outworked the previously unbeaten Mexican to win by the same score on all three cards, 116-112.
Cintron (31-2-1, 27 knockouts) never seriously hurt Angulo (15-1, 12 KOs) but frustrated the former Olympian with his movement and boxing ability.
Cintron said afterward that he is willing to face elite opponents at either 147 or 154.
