An ear injury suffered by Jorge Barrios might jeopardize the former 130-pound titleholder's place on the highly anticipated April 4 “Lightweight Lightening” pay-per-view card, according to Eric Gomez, matchmaker for Golden Boy Promotions, the promoter of the stacked card in Austin, Texas.

Barrios, who is scheduled to face fellow former 130-pound titleholder Carlos Hernandez in one of the card's four lightweight co-features, reportedly hurt his ear while sparring this past week.

“I was told that blood started coming out of one of his ears,” Gomez said. “His agent Sampson Lewkowicz contacted me about it Friday. It looks like the eardrum might be fractured, but we're going to send Barrios to a specialist on Monday to determine how bad the injury is and whether or not he can still fight on April 4.”

Gomez says he's been inundated with calls from the managers of lightweight contenders since a report on BoxingScene.com stated that Barrios had withdrawn from the tournament-style pay-per-view card.

However, no actions to replace Barrios are currently taking place.

“We have to see what the doctor says on Monday,” Gomez said. “Barrios still wants to fight Hernandez on April 4.”
