Junior lightweight contender Jorge Linares recently sustained an injury while training that will postpone a scheduled March 14 defense of his WBA 130-pound title.
Linares (25-0, 16 knockouts) was supposed to fight Josafat Perez (12-1, 7 KOs) in the co-featured bout of a card with former junior bantamweight titleholder Crisitian Mijares in Mexico, but he sustained a cut over his right eye during a sparring session in Tokyo at the boxing gym operated by his Japan-based promoter Teiken Promotions.
The WBA was notified of the injury immediately and the fight was postponed. At this time, Teiken Promotions is working on finding a new date and location for the Linares-Perez fight somewhere between mid-April and mid-May.
