The last time we saw Breidis Prescott he shocked the boxing world, knocking out highly touted prospect Amir Khan in 54 seconds last September in England.

The Colombian slugger hopes to parlay that upset into a title shot this year. In the meantime, though, he faces veteran Humberto Toledo of Ecuador on ESPN2’s Friday Night Fights in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

Prescott (20-0, 18 knockouts) hurt the fast-rising British star with a left hook and then put him down with the same punch. Khan, badly dazed, managed to get up but fell again under a barrage of punches and was counted out.

The Colombian danced around the ring, obviously aware of what such a victory could mean for him. He is ranked in the Top 15 in all four major sanctioning bodies.

Toledo (34-5-2, 20 KOs) has had great success in South America, once winning 28 consecutive fights there. However, he ran into trouble once he left the continent.

He was stopped by Humberto Soto in three rounds in West Virginia, easily outpointed by Stevie Johnston in Colorado and KO’d in one round by Lamont Peterson in the Turks and Caicos islands – all in 2007.

He has since beaten two unknowns in Colombia and then Ecuador.

Also on the card, hot prospect Yuriorkis Gamboa (13-0, 11 KOs) takes on veteran Walter Estrada (35-8, 24 KOs) in an eight-round featherweight bout.

Gamboa, a Cuban defector, is ranked in the Top 10 in three of the sanctioning bodies and not far from a title shot. He seems to be a complete fighter, missing only significant tests on his resume.

Estrada won his first 20 fights, all but one in Colombia, but has been a pedestrian 15-8 since. He’s 2-4 in his last six fights.
