Friday packed with TV fights

Three cards are scheduled to be televised on separate networks Friday night.
On Showtime’s “ShoBox: The New Generation,” 2004 Olympic gold medalist Andre Ward faces Henry Buchanan in a 12-round super middleweight bout in Lemoore, Calif.
Buchanan might be a slight step up in competition for Ward, but he has yet to schedule a big-name opponent. And, clearly, he's getting itchy to do so.
“I am not a reluctant warrior,” said Ward (17-0, 12 knockouts). “I am not afraid to fight anybody. The really big fights haven’t happened, but they will, hopefully in 2009. Lots of possible fights never get made because the higher rated fighters don’t want to fight. I’d fight Jermain Taylor in a second.
“But it really doesn’t matter who I fight. My job is to win, and to continue to win impressively.”
Buchanan (17-1, 12 KOs) said his hand was broken in his only loss, a onesided decision to unbeaten Jean Paul Mendy in 2006.
Also on that card, prospect John “John” Molina (14-0, 11 KOs) takes on Kpakpo Allotey of Ghana (16-6, 14 KOs) in an eight-round lightweight bout.
On ESPN2’s “Friday Night Fights,” Chris Henry (22-1, 18 KOs) fights Yusuf Mack (26-2-2, 16 KOs) in a 10-round light heavyweight bout in Salisbury, Md.
Henry, rated No. 10 by THE RING, is 2-0 since losing a close decision to Adrian Diaconu for the interim WBC light heavyweight title last year. Mack, once a super middleweight contender, is 4-2 in his last six fights.
And on Azteca America, Jesus Soto-Karass (22-3-3, 16 KOs) faces journeyman Carson Jones (18-6-1, 10 KOs) in a 10-round junior middleweight bout in Maywood, Calif. Soto-Karass hasn’t lost since 2005.
