Bute-Andrade II set for Nov. 28
The highly anticipated rematch between IBF super middleweight titleholder Lucian Bute (24-0-0, 19 KOs) and Librado Andrade (28-2-0, 21 KOs) is all set for November 28, according to the promoters of the bout.
The rematch will take place at a venue to be determined in Canada, either in Quebec City or Montreal. It will be televised on HBO in the U.S.
In their first fight, which took place in Montreal last October, Bute, THE RING's No. 2-rated 168-pound contender, out-boxed the relentless Andrade for 11 rounds of the 12-round title bout.
However, Andrade's pressure and Bute's stick-and-move strategy took a toll on the Quebec-based Romanian, who was out of gas in the final round. Andrade, THE RING's No. 4-rated super middleweight, pummeled Bute around the ring before dropping him in the final seconds of the bout.
Canadian referee Marlon B. Wright stirred controversy when he interrupted his 10-count to warn Andrade to stay in the neutral corner, giving the home fighter valuable seconds to recover. Bute made it to his feet just as the bell sounded to end the fight.
Fight fans have clamored for a rematch ever since.
The heads of Golden Boy Promotions, which promotes Andrade (and won the purse bid for the rematch), and Bute's promotional company Les Promotions Sportscene Inc./ InterBox are proud to have agreed to co-promote the rematch.
"The first fight between these two great fighters was a war," stated Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar de la Hoya. "To be able to see them fight again is a special treat for all fight fans around the world. Lucian Bute is an accomplished world champion with a tremendous following and Librado Andrade is today one of the most exciting fighters in the sport. Their styles are made for each other and I can't wait for the fist bell to ring on November 28th."
"We are very excited to get this promotion underway and look forward to closely collaborating with our partner Golden Boy Promotions," Jean Bedard of Les Promotions Sportscene Inc./ InterBox said. "I am extremely proud that Quebec boxing fans will be able to see this fight live."
Said Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer, "Librado is one of the best and most dangerous 168 pounders in the world and I was dead serious when I said I would fight him anywhere in the world."
The fighters, of course, are just as excited to do it again.
"We have unfinished business to settle in the ring," Bute said. "This being said, I am thrilled that the fight will take place in Quebec, in front of my fans. I will beat Librado and then will fight anybody willing to enter the ring against me."
Said Andrade: "I really can't wait for the fight and am excited for it to take place in Canada where all of the fans saw our first fight. I'm coming to win. No decision this time. I'm coming to finish what I started in our first fight."
