Staples Center bids for Pacquiao-Mayweather
Staples Center in Los Angeles has made an offer of $20 million to host the pending Manny Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight on March 13, the Los Angeles Times has reported.
Las Vegas has been considered the leading candidate to land the fight.
"We know there's interest in this fight across the world, but we're very interested and honored to make the most impressive offer possible," Dan Beckerman, CEO of AEG, told The Times. "It's our biggest guarantee ever, and we hope it wins the day. We wanted to push as far and as hard as we could."
Venues in California are at a disadvantage because fighters are required to pay state taxes there, which isn’t the case in Nevada.
Staples Center, which is owned by AEG, will be the site of Israel Vazquez-Rafael Marquez IV on May 22.
