The biggest fight of the summer now has a home.

Adrien Broner’s July 29 Showtime showdown against Mikey Garcia will be held at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., it was announced Tuesday.

Barclays Center, which has played host to many high-profile Premier Boxing Champions fights over the past two years, faced heavy competition from Las Vegas’ MGM Grand and Staples Center in Los Angeles for the high-stakes 140-pound matchup. The latter wasn’t a serious option, though, with Broner’s camp expressing their desire for a neutral location (Garcia was born and raised in Oxnard, California.)

The middle of summer is typically a poor time to hold a fight in the desert, too, with temperatures rising well above 100 degrees regularly. New York should play a perfect host.

Broner (33-2, 24 knockouts) has developed a dedicated following in Washington D.C., where he holds training camp at Headbangers Boxing Gym. The District, situated about 250 miles from New York, is a reasonable train or car ride.

More so, Brooklyn has developed into the fight capital of the East Coast in recent years. Broner has competed there once, a decision over Paulie Malignaggi in 2013 to claim a welterweight title. Garcia (36-0, 30 KOs), too, is familiar with the venue; he ended a two-and-a-half-year layoff at Barclays Center with a stoppage of Elio Rojas last summer.
