Junior lightweight Joseph Adorno is the latest prospect to sign with Top Rank Promotions, the Las Vegas-based promotional company announced Friday afternoon.

Adorno, who is only 17 years of age, made his pro debut this last Friday night at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, stopping Guy Newman at 1:37 of the opening round.

“I can do it all in the ring but my main plan is to stay calm, use my jab and a lot of hard combinations,” said Adorno, who boasted an amateur record of 178-22. “If I have to box, I box. If I have to go get the fight, I go get the fight.”

Earlier this year, Top Rank signed Olympians Teofilo Lopez, Robson Conceicao and Michael Conlan. Lopez and Conceicao won their pro debuts on Nov. 5 in Las Vegas. Conlan is scheduled to make his pro debut on March 17.

Top Rank also announced Adorno, who was born in Union City, New Jersey and now resides in Allentown, Pennsylvania, will be trained by Robert Garcia.

After working out in both of his gyms in Southern California, Garcia has been impressed with Adorno’s maturity and skill-set in the ring.

“He has great skills with a beautiful left hook to the body,” Garcia told RingTV Tuesday afternoon. “This kid has all the tools to become the next Puerto Rican-American star.

“He’s got a bright future. I’m looking forward to his future in boxing.”
