A fight that had more delays than a cab in rush-hour traffic finally has a date.

A deal has been reached for Jermall Charlo to defend his IBF junior middleweight title against mandatory challenger Julian Williams on Dec. 10 at USC’s Galen Center in Los Angeles on Showtime, multiple sources told RingTV.com on Thursday. The card will be headlined by Jesus Cuellar facing former three-division champion Abner Mares on Showtime for a secondary featherweight title, the sources said. The card is promoted by Richard Schaefer, the former Golden Boy exec who has been out of boxing since 2014.

A bout that was supposed to take place in October got pushed back after Charlo requested and was granted a 60-day medical exception as he recovered from LASIK surgery on his eyes. Williams has been the mandatory since he beat Marcello Matano on March 5 but had to wait as Charlo faced Austin Trout in May before finally getting his shot. Mares was supposed to take on Cuellar on June 25 but the fight was canceled after the New York State Athletic Commission failed to grant Mares a license because of a medical issue involving his vision.
