Good news for Felix Verdejo, the Puerto Rican young gun quick with a win and grin since he turned pro on 2012. The 23-year-old was riding his motorcycle in his native country on Saturday and got tossed.

He was taken to a local hospital and naturally, family and friends braced themselves for difficult news.

Those “Diamante” backers can breathe a sigh of relief.

“Thank God he is fine. On Sunday, the CT scan showed no fractures, organ damage or internal bleeding,” his friend publicist Gardy Lopez told me. “He escaped the accident with just scratches and some cuts. He is already walking and could be out of the hospital in the next few days.”

For the record, the 135-pound ace, rated No. 1 by the WBO, was riding from Rio Grande to Carolina, municipalities to the northeast of the island, and lost control of the motorcylcle while trying to avoid a bump on the road.

Now the money question regarding the 22-0 Top Rank likely future champ: Has he sworn off cycles, now and forever?

“One hundred percent,” answered Lopez.

My take: Good choice. Better to concentrate on the ring to gain thrills. Find the need for speed in the squared circle, not the asphalt.
