Deals reached for Charlo-Williams and Commey-Easter Jr. for titles
A pair of deals were reached for two intriguing IBF title fights in the fall.
Junior middleweight titleholder Jermall Charlo (24-0, 18 knockouts) and his mandatory challenger Julian Williams (22-0-1, 14 KOs) agreed to terms to meet on Oct. 1 at a venue around Los Angeles, the IBF confirmed to RingTV.com.
And Richard Commey (24-0, 22 KOs) and Robert Easter Jr. (17-0, 14 KOs) reached a deal to face off on Sept. 9 in Reading, Pennsylvania for the vacant lightweight title, the IBF confirmed. Purse bids scheduled for Tuesday were canceled when both sides struck deals, the IBF said.
Houston’s Charlo won a tougher-than expected decision against former titleholder Austin Trout on May 21. Philly’s Williams has been biding his time in preparation for the long-awaited title shot, winning a seventh-round stoppage against Marcello Matano on March 5 in an IBF title eliminator.
Ohio’s Easter Jr. entered the boxing consciousness with an impressive fifth-round stoppage of Argenis Mendez on April 1. Ghana’s Commey disposed of Anzor Gamgebeli in just two rounds in March.
