Junior middleweight contender Demetrius Andrade is in preliminary talks to face WBA “regular” titleholder Jack Culcay on Showtime this fall, RingTV.com has learned.

Andrade’s camp has a meeting with Showtime boxing head Stephen Espinoza on July 14 to plan Andrade’s next fight, according to Artie Pelullo of Banner Promotions, who co-promotes Andrade with Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing.

Among the options being explored is a match-up with Culcay, an Ecuadorian-born former Olympian who has fought exclusively in Germany and is signed with Sauerland Promotion. Pelullo has started negotiations with Culcay’s camp in an attempt to give Andrade his second title shot after he won a split decision against Vanes Martirosyan in 2013 to capture the vacant WBO junior middleweight strap. Andrade and Culcay actually met in the amateurs in the quarterfinals of the 2007 World Championships with Andrade walking away with a wide decision victory.

Andrade (23-0, 16 knockouts) last fought on June 11, stopping Willie Nelson in the 12th round in a sensational performance that branded Andrade as again, one of the top talents in his division. Andrade, a former U.S. Olympian, is in line to face the winner of WBC champion Jermell Charlo’s mandatory with Charles Hatley; he’s also ranked highly enough in the WBO that if Canelo Alvarez beats WBO titleholder Liam Smith on Sept. 17, he could be in line to challenge Alvarez. But Andrade, 28, is targeting the 30-year-old Culcay (22-1, 11 KOs) before any of that, Pelullo said. The Cuban stylist Erislandy Lara is the WBA “super” champion.
