The PBC’s ratings funk continues, and not even an astonishing upset on Saturday couldn’t reverse the trend.

The PBC’s most recent primetime telecast on NBC registered a dismal .8 overnight rating on Saturday, one of the lowest metered market ratings ever produced for a prime time sporting event, according to Sports Media Watch. The .8 submission represents a 20% reduction from the network’s prior broadcast in April (1.0) and a 39% drop from its December program (1.3), according to Sports Media Watch. The .8 rating is the lowest of nine PBC primetime offerings so far on a primary network.

The Al Haymon-engineered series has now “dropped or declined” in each of NBC’s primetime telecasts since the 2.5 overnight rating in March of last year for the PBC’s kick off program between Keith Thurman and Robert Guerrero. The peacock has put on six ensuing broadcasts.

The PBC on NBC card on Saturday was headlined by unheralded Joe Smith Jr.’s shocking first-round knockout of heavily favored Andrzej Fonfara, capping a 2 ¾ hour broadcast. The card went up against Fox’s Major League Baseball coverage, which delivered a 2.0 rating, as well as the final installment of ESPN’s highly acclaimed 30 for 30 series “O.J.: Made In America,” which recorded a 1.3 grade, according to Sports Business Daily.

A PBC spokesman declined to comment and an NBC rep didn’t immediately return an email. But it’s believed that poor word of mouth, as well as a number of lackluster matchups are to blame for the ratings trend.
