Abraham Lopez wins controversial decision against Julian Ramirez
In a bizarre, seemingly controversial decision, Abraham Lopez won a comfortable decision against Julian Ramirez in a fight that didn’t seem so comfortable for the winner.
Lopez, who seemed to be out-worked in the featherweight bout, won by scores of 97-93, 97-93 and 98-92 Saturday at StubHub Center in Carson, California to remain undefeated on HBO while handing Ramirez his first loss.
Lopez (21-0-1, 15 knockouts) appeared to hurt Ramirez (18-1, 8 KOs) with a series of uppercuts in the second round. The southpaw Ramirez got even in the third with a few winging shots. A cut appeared over Lopez’s left eye in the third, the result of a head butt according to referee Jack Reiss.
Ramirez sustained a bad cut over his right eye in the sixth round –blood was streaking down the side of his face — that was also ruled an accidental head butt. A medium size lump, a hematoma, appeared above Lopez’s right eye midway through the fight. Though Lopez emerged the winner, he didn’t look like it.
