Lightweight titleholder Jorge Linares, who is in talks to face Anthony Crolla for a unification match later this year, has signed a multi-year extension with Golden Boy Promotions, the company announced on Tuesday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Linares, who is unbeaten since 2012 and is a three-division champion, continues to be co-promoted by the Japanese-boxing promoter Akihiko Honda of Teiken Promotions. “Golden Boy Promotions is an elite promoter and they have treated me well over the years, so there was no question that I was going to re-sign with them,” Linares said in a press release. “We’ve still got work to do in this sport, and I’m confident that we will achieve more great moments together in the future.”

Linares’ talent is unparalleled. He is the No. 1-rated lightweight in THE RING’s rankings. But his chin has let him down in all three of his losses. He was stopped in the second round by Sergio Thompson in 2012; walloped in the 11th round in 2011 by Antonio DeMarco and most shockingly in 2009 he was blown out in the opening frame by Juan Carlos Salgado.

But Linares, who initially inked with Golden Boy in 2009, has won nine straight since his last loss to reaffirm himself atop the division. Linares (40-3, 27 knockouts) tasted the canvas against Kevin Mitchell last May, but stopped the British fighter in the tenth round to retain his WBC lightweight title. Now, the Venezuelan is eying a match with WBA lightweight titleholder Crolla (31-4-3, 13 KOs) for later this year. The 30-year-old will do so under the Golden Boy banner.

“Jorge Linares is an elite talent who continues to impress every time out — at only 30 years old, the best is yet to come for him,” Golden Boy CEO Oscar De La Hoya said in the release. “There are a lot of big fights out there for Jorge, and we’re going to pull out all the stops to give him the platform he deserves.”
