Showtime is hoping to keep Anthony Joshua under its banner for a long, long time. Boxing chief Stephen Espinoza told RingTV.com that the network is in the process of attempting to snag the newly crowned heavyweight titleholder “for the rest of his career.”

Joshua’s immense promise was on full display when he demolished an ill-prepared Charles Martin in just two rounds Saturday in his Showtime debut.

“We’re in discussions to finalize that but that’s certainly the intention,” Espinoza told RingTV.com regarding a long-term agreement with Joshua. “We originally had wanted to have him on before in his last fight — the Dillian Whyte fight (in December) — logistics didn’t work because we had another fight on that same date, but we were glad that we finally got to do the debut, and we hope to continue to feature him for the rest of his career.”

Joshua, 26, has positioned himself to be the future of a revitalized heavyweight division. The Olympic gold medalist is a chiseled 6-foot-5, 244 pounds and looks as though he’s jumped off the pages of Muscle & Fitness. England’s Joshua (16-0, 16 knockouts) is also personable and quotable and his humble post-fight comments seemed to make as strong an impression as did his wrecking-ball performance to snatch the IBF title from Martin at O2 Arena in London.

“Anthony has all the tools inside and outside the ring,” Espinoza said. “He’s obviously skilled, a lot of power, says all the right things, very articulate, good looking, great for the sport and is already a huge draw in the U.K. So I feel like this is the beginning of the the U.S. market discovering him and I think it will be a pretty quick process as impressive as he was.”

Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn has talked about Joshua fighting again on July 9 at Wembley Stadium in London on the same date that is slated for Tyson Fury’s rematch with Wladimir Klitschko for the RING, WBA and WBO titles. Espinoza listed a number of potential super fights involving Joshua, starting with matchups with countrymen David Haye and Fury and a date with WBC champion Deontay Wilder if he gets by Alexander Povetkin on May 21 in Moscow.

“He’s got two huge fights in the U.K. in Haye and Fury,” Espinoza said. “And everyone from Joseph Parker to Deontay here to anyone down the line. I think the way Eddie has moved him, he’s willing to take on everybody.”
