Former WBA heavyweight titleholder David Haye has seemingly taken the bait and verbally agreed to square off against bombastic American veteran Shannon Briggs.

The pair engaged in a heated verbal confrontation while in attendance at the official weigh in for Saturday’s IBF heavyweight title bout between Charles Martin and Anthony Joshua.

“That big moron Shannon Briggs keeps chasing me around and he’s talked himself into getting knocked out,” barked a clearly infuriated Haye when interviewed by Sky Sports in the U.K.

“I told his manager that if he fights on my undercard then I’ll knock him out afterwards, providing he can pass a medical and a brain scan.”

When asked if the 44-year-old Briggs had put hands on him during their exchange, Haye said, “No he didn’t, and he knows not to.”

Briggs has gained a reputation for obsessively pursuing potential targets, with former heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko the apple of his eye for several years. With Fury-Klitschko 2 reportedly made for July 9, the charismatic American appears to have changed tact.

Haye, who is 35 years old, faces unknown quantity Arnold Gjergjaj on May 21 in London, England.
