British bantamweight Lee Haskins will make the first defense of his IBF title against Ivan Morales on May 14 in Cardiff, Wales.

Haskins, who is rated No. 6 by THE RING at 118 pounds, acquired the belt in Las Vegas last November, when then-champion Randy Caballero weighed in several pounds over the bantamweight limit.

By doing so Caballero effectively handed the Englishman his championship on the scales.

“I’m delighted to be defending my world title in front of my fans,” said Haskins in a press release issued by Cyclone Promotions. “My opponent Ivan Morales is a young and hungry challenger who comes from a family of champions, so I know I will have to be at my best.”

Ivan Morales (29-1, 17 KOs) is the younger brother of former four-weight world champion, Erik, and the Mexican has an eye on continuing the family tradition.

“I feel grateful to my team and Golden Boy Promotions for the opportunity to fight for the world championship,” he said.

“Fighting for a world title has been my dream and now I am going to show the world who Ivan Morales is as a fighter. I will give 110 percent of myself, apply the pressure on fight night and earn another world title for my family.”

Cyclone Promotions founder Barry McGuigan added, “Lee Haskins versus Ivan Morales is going to be an all-action contest. Both of these guys can really fight and I have no doubt that the fans are going to be treated to something really special on May 14.”

“Ivan Morales is the type of fighter we are proud to have at Golden Boy Promotions,” said Oscar De La Hoya, chairman and CEO of Golden Boy Promotions. “Ivan is thirsty for another world title so Lee Haskins should be ready for a war in the ring.”

Cyclone promotions, Channel 5 and Maxi Nutrition, in association with Sanigar Events and Golden Boy Promotions, are proud to present Lee Haskins’ first defense of his IBF world bantamweight title against Mexico’s Ivan Morales at Cardiff’s brand new Ice Arena Wales, live on Channel 5, on Saturday, May 14.

Tickets go on sale at 9am on Monday, April 4, on www.ticketmaster.co.uk or call 0844 844 0444 and are priced at £30, £40 and for VIP ringside £100.
