Felix Verdejo’s spring/summer schedule is coming into focus.

The highly-regarded lightweight will face Daniel Evangelista (18-6-2, 14 KOs) on April 16 (UniMas) in San Juan in a “Solo Boxero Tecate” main event, Top Rank matchmaker Brad Goodman told RingTV.com.

The 22-year-old would then, if successful, fight on June 11 in an HBO co-feature at Madison Square Garden’s Theater on the eve of the Puerto Rican Day Parade with Jose Felix Jr. (33-1-1, 25 KOs) a possible name in the mix.

Mexico’s Evangelista, 25, has won just once in his last five fights (1-3-1) but the defeats have come against good opposition, with losses to former titleholder Algenis Mendez and undefeated prospect Casey Ramos part of the string. The news of Verdejo-Evangelista was first reported by Boxingscene.com.

While Verdejo is viewed as a star-in-waiting, the youngster is still finding his footing, as was the case on Feb. 27 when he easily defeated previously undefeated William Silva by decision on HBO but seemed to coast to victory instead of mounting a more aggressive attack, as he’s shown he’s capable of doing. The expectations are obviously high whenever he steps into the ring.
