The Golovkin-Hopkins plot thickens…

Team Golovkin made clear they’d be open to going to 168-pounds to meet a living legend for a showdown.
“GGG” promoter Tom Loeffler told RINGTV.com’s Mitch Abramson that many options have to be on the table for Gennady Golovkin and they include a fight against former undisputed middleweight champion and ex-RING light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins.
Fair enough; would Hopkins, now an executive at Golden Boy Promotions, but not yet having hung up his punching mitts, be open to fighting the IBF/WBA middleweight titleholder Golovkin?
Yes, said Golden Boy exec Eric Gomez. “I’ve had some talk with Tom,” he told me. “Bernard has not retired; he’s still got so much warrior in him. He’s the bigger guy, so scientific. He would give some problems to Golovkin.”
Some fans would worry for Hopkins. Golovkin himself alluded to that possibility. Gomez told me he knows Hopkins can handle the challenge and, yes, is open to it.
Because of the political divides in the sport, options are sometimes narrowed and scenarios that are initially not seemingly plausible become so.
Michael Woods still has so much warrior in him too. And a slice of pizza. And a cup of Joe. OK, Woodsy has lunch in him.
