GGG-on-SportsCenter-LA

Gennady Golovkin did a SportsCenter hit on Monday and, no surprise, he came off as a likable, humble rep for the sport.

The fighting pride of Kazakhstan spoke to anchor Stan Verrett and told watchers “it’s possible” that he will glove up Sept. 16 vs. Canelo Alvarez at Cowboys Stadium. But of course he lauded the Mexican as a superb pugilist and sees it as THE fight to make in boxing, and a 50-50 fight.

The anchor gave 3G an opportunity to take a poke at Floyd Mayweather Jr., who has sort of defended his pound-for-pound top dog spot while retired, but of course, the middleweight ace took the high road. Floyd is a master, it’s just that fans like an offensive style more. They crave that “big drama show,” he said.

I messaged reps for GGG and Canelo, to get a response. Golden Boy executive Eric Gomez said, “Nice story, but Canelo has Khan first. We’ll see.”
