Some super middleweight news of note today. The Sauerland crew out of Germany won the right to stage a WBO title defense for 44-4 (29 knockouts) Arthur Abraham, against Top Rank Promotions’ Mexican hitter Gilberto Ramirez.
“Won the purse bid for @WorldBoxingOrg WC Abraham v Ramirez today. In discussions of where fight will take place and that includes the USA.”
I poked them, asking for the amount of their winning bid (Editor’s note: WBO President Paco Valcarcel tweeted the winning purse amount at $1,563,057) and to get a sense of when that fight might take place.
I also left a message at Top Rank Promotions to ask for more deets. Carl Moretti of Top Rank confirmed the winning bid was $1,563,000 and that the Top Rank bid was just $62,000 less. TR and Sauerland are talking site, maybe on the April 9 Manny Pacquiao-Tim Bradley 3 undercard or it might make more sense to do it in Germany, the executive said.
The 35-year-old Armenian-born boxer beat Martin Murray on Nov. 21, winning a stamina battle. The 24-year-old “Zurdo” defeated Gevorg Khatchikian on night earlier.
The 33-0 (24 KOs) lefty been a truTV staple so we shall see which platform shows the bout.
Any purse bids made out of Chez Woodsy are made – and won – by the beautiful Mrs. Woods, who probably looks better with a purse anyway.
