Vasyl Lomachenko defended his WBO featherweight title with a 10th-round knockout of Romulo Koasicha at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas on Saturday.

Koasicha wasn’t expected to pose a threat to the two-time Olympic gold medalist from Ukraine, and indeed the Mexican soon found himself in way over his head. After two pedestrian rounds the uber-skilled Lomachenko (5-1, 3 knockouts) began to unleash his sharp, accurate punches midway through Round 3 and from there only picked up speed. Koasicha (25-5, 15 KOs) tried his best and managed to land a handful of punches but was doomed from the opening bell.

By the 10th round Koasicha, who was on a four-fight winning streak since losing a onesided decision to Lee Selby in May 2014, was getting hit from every conceivable angle and finally went down to a knee after absorbing a series of body shots and was counted out.

A full report will follow.
