Underdog Ovill McKenzie aims to upset the odds when he takes on IBF cruiserweight titleholder Victor Ramirez in Argentina tonight.

McKenzie was only given 11 days’ notice when Yoan Pablo Hernandez, the previous titleholder, was stripped for failing to make a defense. Ramirez, rated No. 8 by THE RING at 200 pounds, has been awarded the belt by default and is a big favorite to prevail on home soil against the Jamaican-born Brit.

“I’m just counting down the hours and I’m ready to get in the ring tonight and cause a massive upset,” said McKenzie.

“What have I got to lose? Nothing, so I’m going to give it everything I’ve got. No one apart from me, my team or my family and friends are giving me a chance. But I’m going to give it my best shot and make Britain and Jamaica proud.

“I’m not worried about the crowd. I’ve been to more hostile places than this and it’s just me and Ramirez in the ring. He’s a good fighter, but he’s never faced a fighter like me who’s so hungry and determined to win the title at all costs.

“I know I’ve got to go out there and take the fight to him. I can’t let it go the scorecards so I’ve got to show them that I’m the boss in there.”
