Former titleholder Orlando Salido spoke about his controversial draw with Roman Martinez as a guest on ESPN Deportes’ boxing show “A Los Golpes” on Monday in Los Angeles.

The result of the fight, which happened on the Sept. 12 undercard of Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Andre Berto, was widely criticized as most observers thought Salido clearly outworked Martinez and won the Fight of the Year candidate. THE RING shared that opinion and raised Salido above Martinez in the ratings as a result.

“I was very disappointed in the scoring, but very happy with my performance in the ring,” Salido told Bernardo Osuna, David Faitleson and Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. during the show. “It is just a shame that after working so hard and sacrificing so much I was not able to walk out with a victory I felt I had earned after 12 tough rounds.”

The three hosts agreed that Salido had won the fight.

Salido added: “Everywhere I go, people tell me I won the fight and very few even think it was close enough to be a draw. I know I did not win all 12 rounds, but won the fight very clear and should had gotten the victory.”
