Trevor Bryan is one of many young heavyweights attempting to make a name for himself in the sport.
He will have that opportunity on network television this Friday night when he faces Derric Rossy at the Downtown Las Vegas Events Center, adjacent to the D Hotel and Casino.
The 10-round bout will headline a “ShoBox: The New Generation” telecast that will air live on Showtime, beginning at 11 p.m. ET/ 8 p.m. PT.
Bryan (15-0, 11 knockouts) has fought modest opposition in his most recent fights. He has a decision win over Elieser Castillo last October and stopped Epifanio Mendoza in the fifth round on April 11.
In his last bout on June 20, the Schenectady, NY resident stopped veteran Stacy Frazier after the end of the second round.
Rossy figures to be a decent test for Bryan, who has fought past the sixth round just once.
Rossy (30-9, 14 KOs) has fought a who’s who of heavyweights in the last couple of years, facing Kubrat Pulev, Eddie Chambers and Fres Oquendo.
He lost a close 10-round majority decision to Vyacheslav Glazkov last August but in his most recent bout on Feb. 14, Rossy won a hard-fought, 10-round unanimous decision over Akhror Muralimov in Queens, NY.
Super middleweight Juan Ubaldo Cabrera of the Dominican Republic will fight late-sub Decarlo Perez in an eight-round bout.
In his last bout on June 13, Cabrera had to rally to win a close, eight-round unanimous decision over Timothy Hall Jr.
Perez, of Atlantic City, NJ, has won eight of his last nine bouts. In his last bout on May 8, Perez won an eight-round, unanimous decision over Jessie Nicklow.
Opening the ShoBox telecast will be an eight-round, heavyweight bout between hard-hitting Natu Visinia and Joey Dawejko. Both fighters are coming off knockout wins in their previous fights.
