Former two-weight world titleholder Ricky Burns (37-5-1, 11 knockouts) will return to action on August 1 against Ghanaian prospect Prince Ofotsu in a 10-round lightweight attraction in Hull, England.

The 32-year old Scotsman is coming off a decision loss to former WBC lightweight titleholder Omar Figueroa in a bout which actually took place above the junior welterweight limit. Burns performed admirably but expressed an immediate desire to return to 135 pounds.

“I’m just looking forward to the future at lightweight,” stated Burns in a previous interview with this reporter. “I knew coming in (to the Figueroa fight) that I would make junior welterweight far too easily. My training camp went really well but I was able to eat freely all the way up until the day before the weigh in.”

Ofutsu has been inactive for 19 months and in his most recent outing he was stopped in eight by countryman Richard Commey. His record is 15-4 (11 KOs) and all victories have come against undistinguished opposition.

Burns versus Ofutsu will take place on the undercard of a massive domestic collision between Luke Campbell, who claimed Olympic Gold at London 2012, and Tommy Coyle. Both men are residents in the city of Hull.
