Danny O’Connor will have to find another opponent as Paul Malignaggi has withdrawn from their 12-round bout after suffering a “severe” cut above his eye in training.

The fight was scheduled to co-headline a Premier Boxing Champions on Spike show, but will now be replaced by Javier Fortuna facing Bryan Vasquez for the vacant WBA super featherweight title at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., according to a PBC press release.

Fortuna-Vasquez, which was originally scheduled for May 23 on NBC, will support the Amir Khan vs Chris Algieri main event.

“I’m not crying over spilt milk,” O’Connor (25-2, 9 knockouts) tells RingTV.com. “My opportunity will come and I’ll be ready. If it doesn’t I’m ready for that as well. Adapt and overcome, I have the tools to face any challenges that are in front of me.”

The former junior welterweight and welterweight titleholder Malignaggi posted a photo of the cut above his left eye on his Twitter account on Friday evening, confirming the injury.

O’Connor will now fight on the undercard of the May 23 fight in Boston, Massachusetts, which is just a 30-minute ride from his hometown of Framingham. O’Connor doesn’t know whom he’ll face, but says he knows who he wants in the future.

“If it were up to me I would reschedule,” said O’Connor. “I want Paul.”
