Jesus Cuellar is scheduled to face Vic Darchinyan on June 6 at the StubHub Center in Carson, Calif., TGB Promotions’ Tom Brown told RingTV late Tuesday afternoon.
The 12-round bout will be part of a “Premier Boxing Champions” card and will be televised live on either NBC or NBC Sports Network.
Originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina, Cuellar (26-1, 20 knockouts) now trains in Oxnard, Calif. with famed coach Robert Garcia. In his last bout on Dec. 20, Cuellar stopped Ruben Tamayo in the fifth round. The win was Cuellar’s ninth in a row.
Darchinyan (40-7-1, 29 KOs) is coming off a ninth round technical knockout win over Juan Jimenez on Feb. 7. Prior to the Jimenez fight, the former two-division beltholder was stopped in consecutive bouts at the hands of Nonito Donaire and WBA titlist Nicholas Walters in Nov. 2013 and May of last year, respectively.
Originally from Armenia, the 39-year-old Darchinyan splits his time between his adopted home of Sydney, Australia and Glendale, a suburb of Los Angeles.
Also scheduled to fight on the card is welterweight Robert Guerrero versus Aaron Martinez in a scheduled 10-round bout. Guerrero is coming off a 12-round unanimous decision loss to Keith Thurman on March 7.
Heavyweight Chris Arreola and junior middleweight Alfredo Angulo are also scheduled to fight in separate bouts.
