Andy Lee can retain his WBO middleweight title at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, on Saturday night but hometown fighter Peter Quillin cannot regain it.

Lee, from Limerick, Ireland, weighed in at 159.6 pounds but Quillin, known as “Kid Chocolate”, hit the scales at 161.6 and could not shed the excess within the allocated 90 minute time frame. He returned at 160.6 pounds and the fight now goes ahead as a 12 round non-title affair.

Quillin, who vacated this belt last year, has apologized to Lee and the fans and vowed to put on his very best performance tomorrow night.

Junior welterweight titleholders Danny Garcia and Lamont Peterson both made their contracted catch weight limit of 143 pounds. Garcia, THE RING Champion at 140, holds the WBC and WBA titles, whereas Peterson holds the IBF. None of these belts will be at stake.
